Setting Up Shop At The Hospital

August 21, 2008

Recently I got the opportunity to set up shop at my local specialty hospital. It was so much fun and everyone was so very nice.

I received lots of compliments on my designs, gave out business cards and made some sales.

I even made some really cute totes with breast cancer awareness pink ribbon fabric (I’m holding one in the picture) especially for this event.

Setting Up Shop At The Hospital

I was the only vendor that day and the hospital supplied me with a table for free! How awesome is that?

My hubby came up with the idea for and then made the stands you see in the picture. Pvc pipes. I love these stands, they are perfect for indoor events. Very easy to transport because they are lightweight. When I use them for outdoor events I place a weight at the base of each especially if it’s somewhat windy that day.

I also have these really neat easel type stands that he made (from pvc too). I didn’t have them with me this day because it was a small setup but I use them for regular events where I have the room to set up a full display. I’ll show you all how they look when I take pictures of my next event.

I’m going to ask if I could set up at this hospital again perhaps late fall, early winter. To see other pictures from this event visit the photo gallery.

Stu, Stu, Studio!

June 26, 2008

I haven’t posted to the blog in a little bit because we were going through the home buying process. We closed (how awesome it feels) and now I have a brand spankin’ new studio! I love it. It really feels wonderful to have a separate studio. Before my work area was a small section of the bedroom. Now it’s a nice sized space with a walk in closet (gotta love a walk in closet).

There’s nice natural light streaming in from a window and I set up my cutting/picture area right under the ceiling light so product pictures should look fabulous.

As you can probably tell I’m really excited about the new studio. It was so much fun putting everything in place.

I had two tall bookshelves which I converted to store fabric bolts in by removing some of the shelves. One of the book cases has doors on the bottom half and that’s where I store all of my extra supplies, office and sewing. I’ve used two other bookshelves to hold different notions, sewing odds and ends, my in and out boxes and inspirational knick knacks (check out the pictures in our photo gallery).

I didn’t have a “real” cutting table so what I did was check out my local thrift stores and I found a great table for $6! It was actually one of those old time formica kitchen tables that people would double as a card table, you know the ones with the screw on legs. Shucks, I brought it home, cleaned it up, put a cover cloth on it, on top of that went my cutting board and mats—new cutting table for me.

I still need to make some cutesy curtains and other accessories. I absolutely love the studio!

Production Is Good

May 29, 2008

Getting ready for First Friday on June 6th and I want to get some more designs uploaded to the website. I’m currently working on a bunch of Rag Quilt Bags. This design is a lot of fun to make because of the numerous fabric pattern and color combinations I can use. I also love the soft look and feel of them. Fully interfaced lining, ragged 15″ handles, and a firm stabilizer added to the bottom. They are great to use everyday measuring at 13″ x 11″ x 5″ with an inside pocket too!

Have about 8 more of these I’m going to make (1 exclusive for my etsy shop and 7 for uploading/First Friday). Thinking about adding some more little girl wallets for First Friday too (look for these soon online).

I’ll be uploading these over the next few days so be sure to check Pursenality for the new editions.
